Children with cancer receive most cytostatic medication free of charge. Other therapies are, however, not covered. The Red Drop was originally founded to enable children to receive vital blood transfusions, as these are very expensive and parents can hardly afford them. Since 2016, these have been financed by the state. However, parents have to pay for other medication or laboratory tests themselves. This is where the Red Drop comes in.

The Red Drop is currently stepping in where help is most urgently needed.
We are mainly financing various laboratory tests. The laboratory tests are used, for example, to determine which cancer is involved, how the therapy is responding, whether the child has an infection or what the blood composition looks like. We also support the costs of examinations such as computer tomography, X-rays and magnetic resonance imaging. We provide assistance to children who do not yet have a confirmed diagnosis and therefore do not receive any support from other organisations.Occasionally, medicines such as analgesics, antiemetics, electrolytes, antibodies or albumins are financed.
In a few cases, the transport of the parent and child to the hospital is financed if they have a very long journey to get there.
